Stutr, the Flame Giant
No one knows whence came Stutr; his tale is lost to the ages. From his great height, it is clear he was a giant once. All agree he did something incredibly wicked, although none know what. Some say he grew drunk on the honeywine of the mountains and ravished one of the gods’ favorites. Others say that once consumed with battle lust, he could not cease his violence and upon returning to his castle, ate the flesh of his children. In any event, he drew the gods’ terrible wrath and was struck by a great blast of lightning from on high. The searing heat turned his clothes to ash, blackened his skin, and caused his flesh to hang loosely from his bones. From thence he was cast into the forges of the underworld to labor for the gods until such a time as he has paid his debt and is released from his agony. Until that day, however, he remains the gods’ slave and when the gods go to war, it is certain that he will trail behind them, dragging his great mountain forged blades and screaming in wrath and agony; a dire warning to all those who would transgress the laws of the sacred.
This miniature was 3-d printed on my Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra 12K resin printer. Sculpt is by Beastiarum Miniatures, who do the horror genre well. Painting was tricky, since painting cracked, burnt flesh is sort of the reverse of normal painting; the darkest parts are outermost, gradually becoming lighter as you move further in. I’m generally pretty happy with it, although I don’t know when I’ll ever use him.
